EMDR -
Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapeutic approach that incorporates both your somatic and emotional states. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (visual, auditory, or tactile) to reduce the vividness and emotional intensity of traumatic memories. EMDR is extensively researched and is an effective method for treating complex trauma and PTSD. Ongoing research shows that EMDR is also helpful in treating anxiety, depression, OCD, chronic pain, addiction, and other distressing life events.
EMDR is different from other trauma therapies in that it does not require you to talk in detail about your traumatic experiences. EMDR helps jump start the brain’s natural healing processes, kind of like jump starting a car’s battery. Through bilateral stimulation, traumatic memories simply become one part of your story and not your whole story.
❊ EMDR is covered by insurance for those using their benefits, but private pay options are also available for those who prefer more flexibility in their treatment.
